The Puerto López Women's Circle was born in 2024 from the need to create safe gathering spaces for women in the canton. We also began to organize motivated by March 8th, International Women's Day, an emblematic date for all women globally to demand our rights.
We are a group of very diverse women with multiple skills, trades, and professions that enrich our organizational fabric through the contributions we can make internally and externally to strengthen it.
We are focused on sustaining this valuable space because of what it represents for each of us and for the rest of the community of women in Puerto López. In 2025, we implemented an Agenda of actions for November 25th, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, with the aim of working for the prevention of violence against women in the canton; we carried out activities within Educational Units and partnered with a Foundation that works with children and other local collectives, as well as with a sports Academy that promotes Jiu-Jitsu as a self-defence tool.
Mission
We are a women's circle in Puerto López committed to creating a safe, supportive, and gathering space, where we promote the comprehensive development and well-being of women. We work from the recognition and defense of our rights, fostering equal conditions, empowerment, mutual support, and the collective construction of opportunities for all.
Vision
To be a benchmark in Puerto López as a solid, inclusive, and transformative space that drives leadership, autonomy, and the active participation of women in all areas of society. We aspire to contribute to a more just and equal community, where every woman lives with dignity, well-being, and the full exercise of her rights.
Objectives:
In Puerto López, as in most territories on the Ecuadorian coast, we face complex contexts of insecurity and a generalized social crisis that directly affects the lack of access to fundamental rights, especially for women. This is why we see the enormous need to work on projects that address and support women for their emotional well-being and mental health. Our project suggests the implementation of support activities in the areas of mental health, emotional well-being, and comprehensive development for both women and their families, as we currently live in an environment of instability and anxiety due to the aforementioned; added to this is an educational communication campaign with the same goal: managing emotions in times of crisis.
